Courtlist v2.1 (beta):  Everything you need to see (and know) - the good, the bad and the pricing

Written by Mark Smith | Feb 11, 2026 9:57:49 AM

At Courtlist, we have a pretty simple philosophy: Be the best teachers in the world regarding court data access.

For the last few months, we’ve been listening to your feedback. You told us where the old system was clunky, where it was slow, and what features you were missing. We took those notes, went back to the drawing board, and the result is Courtlist version 2.1.

We are officially a few days away from opening the doors. But before we do, we want to be 100% transparent about what this update is—and what it isn't.

So we've produced a short demo video of the Case Manager recorded this morning with the expectation v2.1 beta will be available to users next week.

Here's the video.  No razzmatazz.

What’s Changing in Version 2.1?

The core goal of this update was increased functionality, speed and utility. You don't have time to wait for pages to load when you're looking for critical information.  And the content is un-gated (but for members only - so you do need to sign up even if only for a free-plan) in contrast to our previous forever free product which is staying where it has always been.

  • Faster Search: We’ve overhauled the backend to reduce latency.
  • Ungated content: including litigation intelligence tools that are proprietary to us.
  • Watchlists, alerts and more: a suite of premium products to suit businesses of all sizes.
  • Sharper Interface: The UI is cleaner, making it easier to find the "needle in the haystack."
  • Daily Iteration: Unlike traditional software that updates once a year, we are pushing fixes and new features every 24 hours.
  • Knowledge base: built on close to 10,000 pieces of legislation and around 4,000 documents obtained during my own Law studies*.
  • Digital Mark J Smith: Mark's digital twin providing access to legal answers 24x7.

The "Elephant in the Room": It’s a Beta

We’ll be the first to admit it: we are still in the beta phase. This means you might find a bug or a feature that’s still "under construction."

Instead of hiding that, we’ve published our Roadmap Page. We want you to see exactly what we are working on and how fast we are moving. If you see a gap in our service, it’s likely already on that list—and if it isn’t, we want to hear about it.

"How much does it cost?"

This is the question everyone asks, but few companies answer directly on their front page. We have two paths for our users:

  1. Free Access: A robust starting point for those who need basic data.
  2. Paid/Premium: For those who need higher volume and advanced features.

You can view our full pricing transparency page here.

No "call for a quote" games—just the facts so you can make the best decision for your business.

How to Get Started

If you’re already on our list, keep an eye on your inbox. In a few days, you’ll receive a member-only access link. You’ll just need to complete a quick verification, and the dashboard is yours.

  • Join the Program: If you aren't a member yet, you can sign up for the Free Premium Starter Plan here.
  • Wait for your welcome email & verify: you'll receive it next week.

We Work For You

Our goal is to be the most honest, transparent, and helpful resource in the legal data space. But we can’t do that without your feedback.

If you have a feature request or a frustration, email me at mark@markjsmith.com or use the chatbot in the bottom right corner of this screen to chat to "Digital Mark."

We’re excited to show you what we’ve built.
